Ryan Zimmerman - Nationals pizza boy!
Today's Washington Post has a wonderful story about our favorite third-baseman, Ryan Zimmerman. I posted some comments to WashingtonPost.com which I'll share with you here:
"This is a wonderful story.
I think that sports fans in general and baseball fans in particular want to have at least one player on their favorite team to rally around as a role model, face-of-the-team and someone they don't feel will disappoint them as a person or a player.
Ryan Zimmerman seems to be custom-made for such a role, a man of personal character straight out of central casting, a cross between Cal Ripken and Gary Cooper, quietly humble while going about his work with an excellent ethic.
Heck, I'll buy some Zimmerman pizzas just because he's a good guy and to support his charity.
What a relief it is for me, as a fan, to feel certain that Zimmerman isn't some preening prima-donna with an ego the size of R.F.K., who isn't going to disgrace himself, his team, or the city by off-field bad behavior. I hope that he has as long and prosperous a career with the Nationals as he possibly can, and becomes a fixture of the community as well."
To me, the most intriguing part of that whole article was the pizza connection with Papa John's. The possibilities to have fun with this are seemingly endless. For example, when Zimmerman hits a home run, maybe we can shout, "THERE goes another pepperoni-special!" or something along those lines. I think that it would be incredibly awesome if they played this song after a Zimmerman home run (at least a certain 10-second or so part of this song):
Number 11 on our programs (but number 1 in our hearts!) is going to be a lot of fun to watch this season. Now, if you'll excuse me, I suddenly have an urge to have some pizza...
